This looks like a good read although I haven't read it yet.

His Excellency by Joseph J. Ellis, is a book I love.

If you are looking for a great place to start,  1776 by David McCullough is very well done.

Also make sure you check out Daniel Morgan and Ethan Allan!

This is just the tip of the iceberg, go to your local library and check out what they have on the Revolutionary War.  Every Tom, Dick and Harry seem to be spouting off at the mouth about our founding fathers and what they intended in an effort to simplify our politics today.  Bluntly, that's typically pretty funny and almost always self serving because if you check the history, they contradicted themselves, fought like cats and dogs and were far from perfect.  That said, they did something truly amazing that changed this country and the world.  In their time, the issues were obviously more divisive (hence the whole revolt) and the politics were often much more nasty than what we see today.  Our revolutionary period is chalk full of great real stories full of, cunning plots, world changers, war heroes, great couples, amazing women, love stories etc!!!
